Four new members were inducted into the
Morrisotwn-Hamblen High School West Trojan Hall of Fame
before an auditorium filled with high school juniors and
Principal Jeff Kinsler said the ceremoney and new inductees along with the previously installed members would serve as a reminder for those current students that they can accomplish great things as members of the Trojan Nation.
The lessons they have learned during their four years at Morristown-Hamblen High School West were those of excellence, generosity and friendship, and Friday afternoon, the Trojan Class of 2012 said goodbye.
The goodbyes may have been to their teachers and classmates, but the Trojan Class of 2012 also said hello to new beginnings at the 44th annual commencement ceremony held at Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center.
Tim Landefeld has left an indelible mark on Morristown West High School in his three years as a media technology teacher there. Now his role is expanding.
Landefeld took over recently as the new assistant principal and co-athletic director at the school, giving the lifetime sports enthusiast and family man a chance to reach out to more of his extended school family.
Landefeld steps into the role after Bobby Haun had filled the spot on an interim basis for much of the 2011-12 school year. With nearly a dozen teachers on staff that had a principal’s certification, there was plenty of competition for the job, but Landefeld stood out in the end.Read More
Morristown-Hamblen High School West is the 12th best high school in Tennessee, according to U.S. News & World Report’s recently released “Best High Schools” report.
Only 16 high schools received gold or silver medal status and West High received its first ever silver medal, placing it in the top 3 percent in the state.
Silver medal winners had statistically superior scores on standardized tests in reading and math, minorities and low-income students averaged higher proficiency rates than their peers across the state and scored above 16.3 on U.S. News’ college readiness index.Read More
The Trojan Army celebrated the induction of five new faces into Morristown Hamblen High School West’s Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon.
Inductees Ashli Price Bunch, Dr. D. Russell Huntsinger Jr., Terryann Nelson, Suzanne Barbre Singleton and Samuel “S.K.” Kyle Taylor Jr. were chosen because they “came through this very institution and have gone on to do great things,” R. Michael Fishman, president of the Trojan Army, said.
The Trojan Army, which sponsors the Hall of Fame, is a West High alumni association that makes contributions to the school.Read More
